The historical collection includes coins, weapons- guns, Cretan knives, pistols. Also revolutionary flags, maps of Crete, objects from the Ottomans presence on the island, from the era of Autonomy, the Russian presence in Rethymno until the union with the rest of Greece in 1913. It also includes objects from the 1st World War, the Macedonian Strugle and the Battle of Crete and the German occupation.
Christophoros Stavroulakis
Christophoros Ι. Stavroulakis (1900-1979) fought as a volunteer on the Macedonian front during the First World War. He attended military academies and in 1940 fought on the Albanian front. During the German Occupation, he escaped to the Middle East and was discharged from the Army with the rank of colonel. C.I. Stavroulakis was an avid collector of historical and folklore material of Crete.
He served for many years as President of the Historical and Folklore Society of Rethymnon, and in 1974, together with Fali G. Voyatzaki, he co-founded the Historical and Folk Art Museum of Rethymnon.
