In Ottoman period it was the only industrial sector that flourished along with leather tanning and shipbuilding.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This was also happening in the city of Rethymno, where in the past there were many soapfactories that were teeming with life and they played an important part of the local economy.
